Study Abroad Adventures

When it came time to study abroad, I was honestly terrified. While I did the field school in Japan, this was my first time out on my own. I was about to travel for over a year to multiple countries spanning from Australia all the way over to the UK. So, I packed my bags and set off. While Perth, Australia, can be considered quite similar culturally to Canada, it was still a big change. In those 8 months I learn so much about who I was as a person and what it meant to be Canadian not only to my but the global perspective of being Canadian. It also helped me further my understand my abilities and how i want to advance my career. From my experience in Australia I grew as a person but in my experience from the UK i reconnected to my heritage (well at least half). Growing up I knew my grandmother left everything she knew to come to Canada to live a successful life. However, thats all I knew we never could connect it wasn’t till studying abroad in Chester that I finally got to understand my mother side of the family tree. I have never felt so connected to a place before and while Australia helped me understand who I was as an individual the UK made me understand who I was as a whole.
